December 2007 Featured Ride:

Congratulations: SooperDave

I've been a certifiable car nut ever since I got my first Hot Wheels
and would play with it on the driveway, making believe I was the guy
across the street who owned a 2nd gen Z/28. My history of owning
muscle/pony cars has gone in the following order: 76 Camaro Type LT
(my high school ride), 66 Skylark covertible, 68 Camaro Z/28 (still
own today), 92 Mustang GT, 01 SVT Cobra, 03 SVT Cobra, 91 Mustang LX
Notchback (current).

I loved my 03 but the 3600 pound curb weight always bugged me. I'd
daydream about having comparable power in a light weight notchback. So
I'd regularly poke around online looking at notchbacks. Meanwhile, in
June I received an offer on my 03 that was simply too good to turn
down, so I sold it.

At that point I began looking at notchbacks all the time. I was so
hell bent on getting a clean/ straight notch that I nearly shipped one
to NY from Louisiana - but the deal fell apart due to a weak cell
phone signal which caused me to misunderstand the seller. But I guess
it was fate. A few weeks later I stumbled across an ad in craigslist,
called the owner and found this notch only a few miles down the road
from my house. What are the odds?

The dark emerald green notch had 49k miles with the only mods being a
pos Hartman upper intake, welds with BFG's and a drop in K&N filter.
The notch was ordered with power delete (windows/ mirrors/ seats/ door
locks), A/C delete and radio delete. Original intake and wheels came
with the car. Everything else on the car was original except for the
battery.

I bled the brakes, replaced the radiator and hoses, battery and cables
and then in went Motorsport 3.73 gears (new in the box off craigs), a
Pro-5.0 shifter (used off craigs), ported upper and lower Edelbrock
intake manifold (used off svtsnake) and mass air (new from Mustang
Magic). This project's been on a tight budget thus far.

The gears were installed at MM and they said it'd been years since
they'd seen a 91 that still retained its original exhaust and clutch.
In the near-term I plan to swap in a new clutch and exhaust and just
ride her like she's an ex-girlfriend until my Z/28 is back on the
road.

Ultimately, my goal is a rock-solid chassis with some big brakes and a
weight to power ratio of 6 to 1 (including driver) but I'm not sure
which engine combo I'll use to get there. I've been really curious
about having a turbo on a V8 for a while now so maybe I'll take that
route. If you have a strong opinion on what I should do feel free to
PM me with your advice.

Anyway, I wanna give a HUGE thanks to the svtsnake staff for selecting
my notch as the featured ride - I NEVER expected consideration for
something like this. I've been on the site for a few years now and
it's been a pleasure making new friends with other auto enthusiasts
like myself. I particularly enjoy following along with the ongoing
project cars - both big dollar and low budget - that other members are
working on. They impress the heck outta me and I'm always pulling for
my fellow svtsnake members to succeed!!!
