January 2005 Featured Ride:
Congratulations: NiterydaGT (Scotty)

It all started when I was 16 and car shopping.
I never was big into cars but as I was searching online for used cars I came
across a '66 Mustang coupe. I fell in love. It didn't work out but I knew I
wanted that car one day. Fast forward 3 years. I had some money saved and wanted
to find a old Mustang to work on. I picked up a '66 with a 289 and a C4
automatic. It was a great car and I learned a lot from it. Most of the time it
was my dad and I out there in the freezing cold, him with the wrench and me with
the flashlight. At the time I was driving a Buick Century that was breaking
down. It was time for a new car and I knew I wanted another Mustang. After
shopping around for a little, I found a black 1997 GT. It had low miles and was
completely stock, down to the air filter. I was looking for a 5 speed, but
settled for this one with an automatic because of the low miles and how clean it
was.
And so the build up began. The first major decision was the wheels. I nearly
went with the stock colored Bullitt wheels as found on 2001-2004 GT's, but at
the last second decided to go with black. I'm very pleased with that decision as
it really makes the car stand out. From there the stock spoiler was replaced
with a Saleen s281 wing, the front bumper replaced with a Cobra take off, and
the hood replaced with a Saleen heat extractor knock off. Performance started
out with basically every bolt on available, with the exception of headers. After
awhile it just wasn't enough. I sold my '66 Mustang, took the money and
immediately purchased a PI head swap kit from Steen Racing and Stage 1 cams from
VT Engines. As I had done with just about every other install I ever needed, I
took the car to Joe and the guys at Mustang Magic to do the install. After all
was said and done, the car made 241 RWHP and 265 RWTQ.
That's how the car sits now. Next spring the car will make its first ever passes
at the track. She's certainly not the fastest car on the street, but she makes
me happy. I would like to thank everyone at SVTSnake.com for allowing me the
opportunity to share a little about me and my car. Also a thanks to Joe and the
guys at Mustang Magic for all the great work they've done to the car, Andy at
Caliber Collision for all the body work done on the car, and all the members of
SVTSnake.com for sharing their knowledge when I ask a question.
Thanks to everyone...see you on the streets,
-Scott
