Ford officially announces the 2013 Mustang Cobra Jet
Since its victorious introduction at the NHRA Winternationals in 1968, Ford’s Cobra Jet Mustang has created a legacy of power, performance and triumph. That legacy was renewed in 2008 when Ford Racing offered a limited run of the 40th Anniversary Cobra Jet Mustang which quickly sold out. Subsequent 2010 and 2012 model year offerings of the Cobra Jet have proved just as popular. The 21st century CJ has carved its own legacy at drag strips across the country becoming the winningest late model in NHRA with national event wins in 2009, 2010 and 2011 and numerous class records this season alone.
Today, Ford Racing unveiled the 2013 Cobra Jet Mustang at the Performance Racing Industry (PRI) show in Orlando, Fla. With over three seasons of testing, racing, and customer feedback the 2013 Cobra Jet marks the continued evolution of the factory-produced turnkey race car. Designed for NHRA Stock and Super Stock competition, the 2013 model is better than ever and features the latest drag racing technology for greater speed and consistency.
“The 2008 Cobra Jet is a great car. It does everything we wanted it to do,” said George Goddu, business manager, Ford Racing Performance Group. “We’re really proud of that car, but we improve with each new Cobra Jet offering and 2013 is no exception.” The 2013 Cobra Jet offers two 5.0L TiVCT engine options. Customers may choose a naturally aspirated engine with Cobra Jet induction system, CNC ported heads, high lift cams and low-drag accessory drive, or a 2.9L Whipple supercharged version with CNC port matched manifold and heads, and a proprietary 10-rib supercharger drive system for high rpm use without a belt.
“The 5.0L has all the attributes to make a world class drag racing engine and is ideal for the Cobra Jet,” said Goddu. “Both the naturally aspirated and supercharged engines will be competitive as delivered.” Additionally, the 2013 Cobra Jet chassis has been improved. Lightweight body modifications give better weight distribution and electric power steering provides better drivability without parasitic horsepower loss. A new roll cage design is optimized for safety and chassis rigidity while the brake pedal ratio has been revised for more modulation and stopping power. And the rear suspension geometry delivers faster and more consistent 60-foot times.
The 2013 Cobra Jet is priced to be the best value in the market with an approximate MSRP of $86,000 with the naturally aspirated engine option, and $93,000 with the supercharged engine. Additional options and pricing will be announced January 2012. Much like many of Ford Racing’s previous turnkey race cars, the 2013 Cobra Jet Mustang will be built by the United Auto Workers (UAW) at the Auto Alliance International (AAI) assembly plant in Flat Rock, Mich. Production of Cobra Jets will commence in June 2012, with delivery of all vehicles expected mid-summer of 2012.
Cobra Jet components will be available through Ford Performance Parts, allowing racers to upgrade their Mustangs to Cobra Jet specifications. 2013 Cobra Jet production is limited to only fifty (50) units and orders placed through Ford dealers will be filled on a first come first served basis. (Part number M-FR500-CJ).Finally, all Cobra Jet fans can help choose the color of the 2013 Cobra Jet – classic white, silver or black – by voting online at Ford Racing.com. Voting ends December 31, 2011.

The 2013 Shelby GT500 wants to make the Camaro ZL1 its bitch!
You know how the Chevy Camaro ZL1 was supposed to be sitting atop the Muscle Car War heap? Yeah, not so much anymore. Meet the 650 HP 2013 Shelby GT500 — it's gonna try to make the ZL1 its little bitch.Yes, you're reading that correctly — the new Shelby GT500's 5.8-liter supercharged V8 engine is rated at an astonishing 650 HP and 600 lb-ft of torque. That's a whopping 100 HP and 90 torques more than the 2012 model year.
It's almost as if Ford's adding the power just so it can shove its snakeskin-boot-clad foot right up the NACA ducts of its bowtie-bedecked competitor. That's right, in fact, I'm wondering why they're even bothering to call it a GT500 anymore. Shouldn't they be calling it the GT 650 or something more appropriate for a muscle car with a 200 MPH top speed?
Whatever.
Anyway, this might just seem like Ford's plopping a bigger engine under the hood, right? Of course not. I mean, what would make you think that? Well, other than their own press release saying "It might just seem like we're putting a bigger engine into the car." But come on, that would just be ludicrous to assume it's nothing more than the life-size equivalent of an Estes model rocket or a Mustang with a Wily E. Coyote-style rocket strapped to it.
Because Ford's added all sorts of other stuff to help manage all that power and torque — you know, like 19-inch front and 20-inch rear wheels coupled with Goodyear Eagle® F1 SuperCar G: 2 tires on all vehicle configurations and a Torsen limited-slip differential. Well, Ford'll add that Torsen limited-slip diff if you order the optional Performance Package. Oh, you didn't order the optional Performance Package? Then yeah, it's pretty much just a giant honkin' engine strapped onto a 3,850 lb. muscle car. But don't worry — it'll go purdy damn fast in a straight line.
Also, did we mention Ford's press photos have a blonde behind the wheel. Because, you know, this is America...truck (axle), yeah!

» EXCLUSIVE First Look-WHIPPLE 4.5L... Coming soon!! |
|
Oct 07, 2011 - 9:11 PM - by Jared@Lethal
|
Earlier today I received this picture of the NEW 4.5L Whipple Supercharger which is soon to be released. It will be available for the GT500's first and other models after. I've been hearing about this monster for a while but was told to keep it quiet. However it's pretty much ready to go so we wanted to give everyone a first look at it.
It's actually 1mm shorter than 4.0L compressor. I'm also being told it will feature some new Whipple rotor technology.
I'll post more news as I get it.

Lethal Performance BOSS Runs 10.31@132.41 at Mustang Week!

Mustang Week 2011 was a huge success for Team Lethal. When we arrived at Darlington Dragway with Team UPR early Thrusday we were joined by the crew from Monster Energy and Steve Turner from 5.0 Mustang Magazine shortly after. We prepped the car and blessed it with some fresh decals from UPR and Monster Energy & Mcleod and we were ready to rock. This was the 3rd time our Boss had ever seen the 1/4 mile strip. The conditions were definitely less than favorable with scorching heat. None the less our hired gun Jeremy Martorella from UPR Products lined up the Boss for it's first run of the day. Unfortunately it didn't make it out of the burnout box. Not once, not twice but 3 times our intake tube popped off. A little embarrassing to say the least especially as this was a big event with lots of people watching and our first time in front of the Monster Energy crew. However we know from experience this stuff happens when racing and we kept our heads up high.
With a little customization by Jeremy and Mark from UPR the intake pipe wasn't going anywhere. We hit the burnout box again and this time actually made it to the starting line. There were lots of cheers and clapping from those in the crowd as they were also just as happy as we were that we made it past the water box.
Jeremy launched the car and we made our first full pass with a 10.40 something trapping close to 135mph. Our nest run yielded us the best ET of the day with a 10.31@132.41 which is the quickest anyone has been in a 2012 Boss. The MPH on this run was low due to Jeremy needing to shift into 5th gear right at the end of the track. There were also a few small things we need to work out with the car which we took care of once we got back home. We know that once back at Palm Beach International Raceway we should see better times as it was just too hot to see the performance we expect from the car. We'll be out again tomorrow so be sure to keep posted on our progress.
In the end we were stoked to have been able to run the car at Mustang Week in front of all of our customers/fans.
We want to thank everyone for all of their support. Jeremy Martorella, UPR Products, Steve Turner, 5.0 Mustang Magazine, Monster Energy (Rob, Stuart, Scott, Eldina) , Jon Lund, JLT Performance, Crew@ Mustang Week, Mcleod Racing, Bogart Racing Wheels, SCT , StacyStangz for the awesome pics, all of our fans and supporters and especially Christy for putting together such an awesome video!!! ... Do you like the new 500HP 2014 Mustang GT??
**Article courtesy and copyright AutoExpress via American Muscle.com**
The times are indeed a changin’! I think we may have proof of this change as the Mustang world anticipates the release of the 2014 over-haul that has sparked a ton bit of speculation. The interior is rumored to be much better with higher quality materials and the installation of advanced technology. Also, the 2014 Mustang model will be a retro throwback to the 60’s Fastbacks and will now feature change in the form of… a Turbo!
The guys over at Auto Express basically confirmed that the new model will feature a 2.5-liter EcoBoost turbo that will generate about 300-HP and will also feature, drum roll please… Independent Rear Suspension! Go ahead, soak that one up. (And don’t worry, a 5.4-liter 500-HP V8 will be available if you’re after some muscle – afterall, this is a Mustang!)
The confirmed smaller, leaner chassis will only be a rocket-ship with a 500-HP V8! This new platform will help the Mustang make its way over to the UK and other continents (right hand drive), as Ford continues to compete globally. The rumor that Ford will be featuring the new EcoBoost Turbo in its new model has been circulating for quite some time, but IRS? That’s news! Do you like where the new Mustang is headed? What about the concept design (even though they’re hardly ever accurate)?
Tell us your thoughts by replying to this thread!

» First BOSS in the 10's!! Lethal Performance Inc 10.64@124.24mph |
|
Jun 23, 2011 - 1:46 PM - by Jared@Lethal
|
We've been making sure to stay busy with our new Boss. We've already had Vaughn Gittin jr drift it with less than 1000 miles on it. This time Jeremy Martorella of UPR Products got the chance to take it down the drag strip for the first time with just under 1400 miles on it.
Our second run of the evening yielded us a 10.64@124.24 with a 1.51 60ft. The car hooks great and Jeremy was very impressed with how fast it was. He was shifting the car at 7800-7900rpms. For our tire and wheel setup we're running a set of Bogart Bolted GT's along with some Hoosier front runners and Mickey Thompson 15" ET Drags.
As far as the rest of the mods go unfortunately we're not going to disclose that right now as you'll be able to read all about it in a up coming issue of 5.0 Mustang Magazine compliments of Steve Turner.
We'd like to thank everyone involved with the car as well as all of our friends and fans.
Jake & Crew at Power By the Hour Performance, Jeremy Martorella of UPR Products, Jon Lund, SCT, Steve Turner, 5.0 Mustang Magazine, Danielle Perez of D. Perez Photography, Van Collier, Satcher Motor Company, Palm Beach International Raceway
