Super Clean Line Lock Switch Installation
by: Michael J. Christopher (MJChristopher)

I figured a line lock would come in handy at
the track, and as luck would have it Santa (a.k.a - Dad) bought me an SLP Line
Lock for Christmas. So, the question became....Where to install the switch? My
key criteria were: Easy to reach, very low key, and no drilling holes in the
dash/console. I was very happy with the results, so I thought I would share. I
prepped the switch install location and Stevie from MM (big thanks!) installed
the line lock hardware and routed/connected the wiring to the switch.
Summary: I found a switch that was the perfect diameter to fit into the hole for
the electrical plug next to the shifter. Some very easy modifications to the
electrical plug unit permitted the switch to be installed and the wires routed
out the back.
Details:
Switch Used: Round rocker switch w/ Green LED. The key is that it's got a 16amp
rating (similar to what is supplied with the SLP kit) and a pressure fit body
meant to be pushed into a dash plate. The one I bought is from Oznium, who also
supplies switches used by Speed of Sound. This is the link to the switch used,
any similar style and size switch should fit: (http://www.oznium.com/rocker-switch)
Steps:
1) Unscrew the shifter knob and pop the center console trim piece out, unplug
the electrical connection.
2) Remove the electrical plug housing from the console trim (pops out).
3) Using a small drill bit, drill directly into the small rivet found inside the
back of the electrical plug housing. (See pic below). Once you drill through the
rivet, the back piece comes right off and exposes a hole for routing the wires
through.
4) Insert the switch and pull the wires out through the hole in the back of the
electrical plug housing.
5) Push the switch/electrical housing back into the console trim piece.
6) Review wiring notes (included below) for lighted vs. non-lighted switches.
Note: A generic wiring harness or insulated spade connectors should be connected
to the leads from the switch when performing the wiring to ensure that you can
still disconnect the switch wiring to remove the shifter console trim piece
after install is complete.

An MSD generic three wire harness was used
to ensure that the wires could still be disconnected to take the console out.
Insulated quick connect spade connectors would also have worked fine.

Wiring Notes: The line lock comes with
pre-made wires intended for the switch to be on the ground side. This won't work
for a lighted switch, because the lighted switch needs to be on the hot side.
Below is a sample diagram of how the wiring is modified to accomplish this.
